Things can go one of two ways when you buy a home in the South Kingstown, Rhode Island, or anywhere else for that matter.

In some cases, your chosen house could be everything you've ever dreamed of, and you won't have to change a thing to create the perfect living environment for you and your family.

A second, and more likely scenario, is that you'll have to finish a few minor renovations before moving in, or very soon after that.

You'll be happy to know that if you find yourself in that second situation in South Kingstown, there are a few hardware stores to visit, so you won't have to travel far to pick up supplies.

Here's a look at some of the town's foremost places to pick up paint, lumber, and do-it-yourself products.

Arnold Lumber

There are two Arnold Lumber locations in South Kingstown: one just outside the Kingston Railroad Station and one on Main Street in Wakefield.

The Kingston Railroad Station Arnold Lumber features a full-service lumberyard, making it the place to go if you're doing a large project and need a lot of wood. This yard also has a full showroom, a conference center, and the chain's corporate offices.

The Wakefield store has a smaller lumberyard, but you can get what you need for most do-it-yourself projects. There's also a large showroom at this location, and they carry limited masonry supplies.

Unless you're a contractor doing a large scale job, you can make use of whatever store is closest to your new South Kingstown home.

Jerry's Paint and Hardware

It's technically in Narragansett, but Jerry's Paint and Hardware is steps from downtown Wakefield, so we'll include it on this list. Jerry's most endearing quality is that it's a local hardware shop, which is becoming an increasingly rare trait as chains take over the industry. Buying here means supporting a local business that has served the area for over 70 years.

Jerry's Paint and Hardware carries over 30,000 products, including a wide selection of paint and the tools needed to get your home renovation job done. Unless you're doing a full-scale renovation, you can find everything that you need at this store.

Locals love the staff at Jerry's Paint and Hardware, as well, as you'll receive a customer service experience that larger stores don't provide.

Salk's Ace Hardware & Marine

There's a little bit of everything at Salk's Ace Hardware & Marine in Wakefield, as they sell lumber, building materials, clothing, and sporting goods, to name a few.

Other items that you can get at Salk's include plumbing and electrical supplies, hardware, tools, paint, lawn and garden products, and housewares.

Much like Jerry's Paint and Hardware, you can find most of what you'll need for your home improvement job at Salk's Ace Hardware. And if the South Kingstown location is too far away, there are other locations in North Kingstown and Warwick.

The Color House

If all your house needs is a coat of paint before moving in, look no further than the Color House on Kingstown Road in Wakefield. This shop carries many high-end paint brands and can come up with any color imaginable for you.

Also, if you're unsure about how you want your home's interior to look, you can book an appointment with their design specialist to come up with a plan. The designer will inform you of the perfect color scheme to match your home's interior, and offer other home decor tips, helping you make the most of your property.

There's more than paint here, too, as the Color House carries window coverings like shades, blinds, and shutters. There's exterior stain available, as well, should your fence or deck require some attention.

Compass Hardware

Compass Hardware is in Charlestown, but if you live in Matunuck or Perryville, it's closer than any other hardware store in South Kingstown. Compass is also a small, local shop that is worth supporting because independent hardware stores are becoming a thing of the past.

Once you head into Compass Hardware, you can pick up many of your electrical, plumbing, and hardware needs, and they also sell tools, paint, lawn and garden supplies, and propane. They really cram a lot into this small store, so if you're looking for something in particular to complete your home renovation project, there's a good chance Compass Hardware will have it.

Your South Kingstown Home Renovation

You'll have plenty of hardware stores to choose from, depending on the scale of your project and how much material you require. Locals contractors are available to assist, as well, should the job be beyond your expertise.

Living in South Kingstown is an outstanding option if you love beaches, nature, history, and the oceanfront lifestyle, and these hardware stores make it easier to turn the house you buy into your dream home.
