Kelley's Deli: Rhode Island's Best Irish Fare

Irish Breakfast

South County has an outstanding dining scene, with restaurants serving food from all over the globe. On any given day, you can enjoy Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, American, or seafood dishes from some of Rhode Island’s best chefs, and all within a short drive of the area’s top attractions.

But where can you find the region's best Irish cuisine?

Ask anyone who has researched this topic, and they'll likely point you in the direction of Westerly and, more specifically, Kelley's Deli, a family-friendly spot in the Granite Center shopping plaza that has been serving customers since 1997. The restaurant is open from 7:00 AM until 2:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday and 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Sundays, giving you more than enough time to stop in for a meal.

Among locals, Kelley's is known as the best Irish restaurant in South County, and many, including the fine people at Yankee Magazine, believe that it has the best Irish food in the entire state.

But its popularity goes well beyond its excellent food, as Kelley’s Deli also features a collection of quirky decorations. You see, the restaurant’s walls are filled with Irish proverbs and artwork, creating a uniquely authentic atmosphere. It’s like being in an Irish pub, minus the tipsiness.

These elements come together to create a restaurant that is worth driving to Westerly to visit. The next time you're looking for a hearty meal at breakfast or lunch time, give Kelley's Deli a try.

Let’s See the Breakfast Menu

The breakfast menu at Kelley's has a nice mix of Irish items like corned beef hash, potato pancakes, and bangers, in addition to international breakfast dishes like pancakes, French toast, omelets, eggs Benedict, and breakfast sandwiches.

One of the more ordered breakfast items is the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, with locals saying its the best corned beef hash in all of Rhode Island. The Irish Benedict, which is an English muffin topped with potato cakes, Irish bacon, two poaches eggs, and hollandaise sauce, is also very popular and is something you must try at some point if you’re fan of eggs Benny. Or, if you're more in the mood for something sweet, the Peanut Butter Banana Stuffed French Toast might be right up your alley.

No matter what type of food you're into, Kelley's has something for you, and you'll be very impressed by the prices, as most items are available for under $10.

What’s About the Lunch Menu?

You'll notice a mix of distinctly Irish cuisine and American favorites on the Kelley's Deli lunch menu. The Irish dishes available include the Blarney Melt, which is corned beef, cheddar cheese, and coleslaw on toast, the Ultimate Corned Beef Melt, made up of corned beef, bacon, cheddar cheese, and whiskey grilled onions, and the Guinness Roast Beef, a sandwich with beef, Guinness infused mushrooms, cream cheese, and onions.

Of course, like any decent lunch menu, there is also a selection of burgers and wraps at Kelley's, including the ever-popular Bacon Double Cheeseburger and the always tasty Chicken Salad Club Wrap. You can even build your own sandwich, wrap, or burger using the available toppings or order a salad, should you want to go with a lighter option.

As with breakfast, pretty much everything on the lunch menu is under $10, providing value that is tough to find anywhere else in South County.

A Great Location

The convenient location that Kelley’s occupies is another reason for its popularity. The restaurant is just outside of downtown Westerly, within walking distance of High Street and Wilcox Park, so you can easily pop over for a meal while exploring the town.

It's also only a 10-minute drive from Misquamicut Beach, 13 minutes from Watch Hill, and 20 minutes from Foxwoods Casino, so if you’re spending time at these locations this summer, Kelley’s is an excellent place to head for lunch. You could also start your day with an Irish meal before hitting the beach or casino in the afternoon.

Give Kelley’s a Try

Kelley’s has delivery and take-out options, so those who want to enjoy the state’s best Irish food without leaving the comfort of their own home are in luck.

There are so many great restaurants throughout South County that it’s impossible to visit them all, and your choice will come down to what you’re in the mood for eating. For satisfying classics with a home-cooked feel, you can’t do much better than Kelley’s Deli.

No matter your reason for trying Kelley’s, you won’t be disappointed once you taste the fantastic Irish food and soak in the unique one-of-a-kind atmosphere that this restaurant provides.
