Living in South Kingstown's Green Hill Neighborhood

South Kingstown features numerous areas to buy a home, as the town spreads between Matunuck in the south and Kingston in the north with Wakefield-Peacedale and other communities in between.

Another southern community in South Kingstown is Green Hill, a small neighborhood nestled between Green Hill Pond and Trustom Pond with direct access to Block Island Sound.

While this neighborhood is small, it's loaded with activities for the entire family and provides an idyllic oceanfront lifestyle for those who prioritize peace and quiet.

Here's a look at what you can expect after buying a home in Green Hill, Rhode Island.

Hitting the Beach

As you might expect from this community on the ocean, Green Hill has a beach. However, this isn't an overrun state beach that attracts visitors all summer long. It's a quiet, secluded section of sand where you can relax without worrying about the crowds and noise.

There are a couple of different ways to experience the beach in Green Hill, starting with the Green Hill Beach Club. This private organization features 800 feet of secluded oceanfront space, in addition to a clubhouse that frequently holds events. If you're looking to establish relationships in the community, the beach club is the place to do it.

Of course, you don't have to be a member to access a stretch of beach, as there's a public section of sand right beside it. Keep in mind that parking is limited in this area, and there aren't any on-site facilities, but the beach is quiet, beautiful, and a nice place to spend the day.

You can also walk through the area just east of the Green Hill Beach Club toward Trustom Pond. There are beaches on the ocean-side and pond-side in this area, and the stretch of sand is long enough that you're sure to find somewhere to relax all alone.

Beaches are plentiful in Green Hill; you just have to head out and find them.

Visiting the Park

Green Hill has a park that sits north of the beaches on Green Hill Beach Road. This facility is surprisingly large, featuring a playground, two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a multi-purpose field. There are picnic tables, too, should you pack a lunch, and you can even take some trails for a quick hike through the woods.

If you're moving to Green Hill with the kids, you'll be glad that you have access to this park.

Heading to Trustom Pond

We mentioned that you could walk along the beach to the south end of Trustom Pond, and it's also possible to hike through the woods on the north end. These trails start on Matunuck School House Road and aren't technically in Green Hill, but they're just minutes away.

There are multiple paths through the woods leading to the pond. And the payoff is the views over the water and even out to the ocean.

If hiking is on your list of things to do, you'll be glad that you're living close to Trustom Pond and its surrounding forests.

Using the Boat Launch at Green Hill Pond

The west end of Green Hill is right on Green Hill Pond, so it makes sense that there would be some access to it. Although it's small and unpaved, there's a boat launch at the end of Maple Drive where you can put a small vessel in the water.

However, there are a few things you should know about the boat launch:

First, the ramp is only suitable for car-top boats. You can't get a large vessel in there, so your canoe, kayak, or small fishing boat are all you can use.

Second, the ramp is only for locals. You must own a home in Green Hill to use this facility, and you could get a ticket if you don't follow the rules.

Third, there isn't any on-site parking because the surrounding space is private property.

If you find this boat launch too challenging to access, there's another launch on the west side of the pond in Charlestown. There's also a kayak rental shop in this location.

Making the Most of Your South County Home

For such a small community, Green Hill has a lot going on. While you won't find an eclectic dining scene or any nightlife whatsoever, this neighborhood has everything that you could want in a quiet beach community that's away from the busier sections of South Kingstown.

Of course, you can always head to East Matunuck or Wakefield-Peacedale if you're looking for some excitement, but for day-to-day life without the crowds, Green Hill is a top choice for those buying a home near the ocean in South County.
