Lobster Boils, BBQs, and Clam Bakes in Westerly This Summer

If you're looking at relocating to the Westerly area, you'll be happy to know that there is plenty to do in the summer. Naturally, you'll probably spend a lot of time at the beach, since the town has some of the finest oceanfront relaxation opportunities on the entire East Coast, but there are also events happening at or near the beaches at night.

You see, multiple times per week all summer long, you'll have the chance to head to Ocean House Beach or the Weekapaug Inn to enjoy a meal and some entertainment well into the night. Some nights these venues hold a BBQ, other times it is a lobster boil or a clam bake, and in some cases, pizza is served, but the end result is always a great time.

When looking for an exceptional time after buying a home in Westerly, make sure you head down to one of these events at least a couple of times during the summer because this is part of South County living that you'll certainly want to experience.

Ocean House is a large Victorian-style hotel in Westerly's Watch Hill neighborhood. The original hotel on the site was constructed in 1868 and demolished in 2003, so the current hotel is a replica of that historic structure. The new building has 49 rooms and 23 residential suites. It also has private beach access and is known for hosting weddings and other events throughout the year.

Every Monday in July and August, the Ocean House hosts a movie and BBQ night right on the beach. The cost is $45 for an adult and $18 for a child, with kids under the age of three being free. The meal is served buffet style, with popular BBQ favorites like steak kebabs, chicken, shrimp, hamburgers, hot dogs, and pulled pork on the menu. There's also a selection of sides and salads, in addition to a dessert table for after your meal. A cash bar is available, as well. The meal starts at 6 PM and the movie at 8:30, so you can make an entire night of it.

Tuesdays throughout the summer, Ocean House hosts a pizza and a movie night. The cost of this night is the same as the BBQ, with the difference being that you get to build your own pizza before heading out to enjoy a Disney, Dreamworks, or Pixar film. Fresh popcorn is available to all paid guests throughout the film, and there is a dessert bar to enjoy after you've eaten your pizza.

On select Friday nights in July and August, there is a lobster boil and BBQ at Ocean House. This event, which runs from 6-9 PM, costs $110 for adults, $55 for children between the ages of four and 12, and is free for kids under three. Ocean House lobster boils are some of the most anticipated events of the summer because you can enjoy your freshly prepared seafood right on the beach. The menu includes a selection of salads, a chowder station, potatoes, corn, summer vegetables, chicken, ribs, clams, mussels, and, of course, whole boiled lobsters. Dessert is available, as well. You're sure to get your money's worth at this buffet, so make sure you check it out this summer.

Gatherings at the Weekapaug Inn

The Weekapaug Inn was originally built in 1899, although that structure was destroyed by a hurricane in 1938 and rebuilt the following year. The inn was continuously in use from 1939 until 2007, when it was closed for renovations. The property was then sold and finally reopened in 2012, with 27 guest rooms, four suites, and plenty of space for events and activities.

Every Wednesday throughout the summer, the Weekapaug Inn hosts a family-friendly movie night. The movie is shown on the lawn outside of the hotel, and the films will be a selection of Lionsgate, Sony, and Studiocanal productions. Admission to the movie night is completely free, although you can purchase dinner from the Off The Menu food truck that is present each week. The movie gets started at 8:30, so don't be late.

Nearly every Thursday throughout the summer, the Weekapaug Inn is home to a lobster boil and clam bake. This event also takes place on the lawn outside of the hotel and is a buffet-style meal featuring salads, chowder and, of course, lobster and clams. The cost of attending the dinner is $85 for adults, $40 for children between four and 12, and free for younger children. The event runs from 6-10 PM, and there will be a campfire after dinner where the kids can roast marshmallows and make s'mores.
