Take a Camping Vacation at Mystic KOA Holiday

Naturally, you're likely to spend a lot of time at the beach when living in South County, Rhode Island, New London County, Connecticut, or anywhere else on the East Coast. After all, this area has some of the country's best beaches, and you'd be letting yourself down if you don't frequent them.

At the same time, this area is more than just oceanfront fun, as there's plenty to do in the region's inland areas, as well.

For example, this part of the world offers outstanding camping opportunities, making it easy to head out with your family whenever you wish to one of the region's first-class facilities.

One campground you won't want to miss is Mystic KOA Holiday, a large venue in North Stonington that's minutes from downtown Westerly and Pawcatuck village near the Connecticut/Rhode Island border.

Here's a look at everything that makes Mystic KOA Holiday an excellent place to do some camping with your family.

History of the Grounds

Before all else, it's interesting to learn a bit about the location of Mystic KOA Holiday, as there's a significant amount of history to it.

The campground sits on the site of one of Connecticut's first farms, and 250-year-old stone walls still line part of the property. The venue is also full of century-old maple trees and features reproductions of colonial-era buildings, adding to the atmosphere of this one-of-a-kind spot.

Camping at Mystic KOA is like stepping back in time while still having access to all the modern amenities you could ever want, and that's why those who frequent this campground love it so much.

On-Site Amenities

If you've ever stayed at a KOA campground before, you know that they usually go all-out, as these aren't your typical rustic camping venues. Mystic KOA is no different, as it features unique amenities you'd be hard-pressed to find at any other campsite in the area.

First, there are two swimming pools, which sit beside each other on the south end of the park. Other amenities near the pools include a mini-golf course, playground, jumping pillow, basketball court, and shuffleboard facility.

Just west of the swimming pool is the campground's fishing area, which has two ponds offering catch-and-release angling. Both ponds are stocked seasonally, but keep in mind that you'll have to bring your own fishing gear.

The east side of the campground has another recreation area with a playground, horseshoe pits, a pavilion, a rec hall, and a volleyball court. There's also an enclosed dog run and a large field where your kids can run and play.

That's not all, though, as the campground has banana bike rentals, outdoor movie nights, themed weekend activities, hay wagon rides, and a community fire pit with marshmallows and s'mores.

In short, this facility has a little bit of everything, and you won't be disappointed by what you come across when spending a weekend at Mystic KOA.

Sites and Cabins

Mystic KOA Holiday is a large campground with various RV and tent sites to meet your needs. Many sites offer 50 amp power and full hookups, while others are more basic sites for those with tents. There are deluxe tent sites available, too, and even RV spaces with patios for visitors to enjoy while on vacation.

Even if you don't have an RV and aren't into camping in a tent, not to worry; Mystic KOA has a selection of rustic and deluxe cabins, so you can enjoy all the facilities this campground has to offer while staying out of the elements.

Additional amenities available to campers include cable television, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, propane refills, and firewood. If there's an activity or convenience you want on your camping trip, there's a good chance you'll find it at Mystic KOA.

A Year-Round Destination

It's worth noting that Mystic KOA is open year-round, so you can book a cabin or RV site in the fall or winter if you're looking for a quick getaway. Keep in mind that there's no water service to the RV sites in the winter and that many of the amenities close down after the Labor Day weekend.

Of course, summer is the most popular time at the campground, as the pools and other facilities are up and running, creating a festive environment between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

However, Mystic KOA is a beautiful place to spend some time, no matter the season, because of its convenient location and lively atmosphere. If you're buying a home in South County or southeastern Connecticut, it's nice to know that facilities like this campground are available to you all year round.
