Where to Get Married in South County

Wedding Party

Southern Rhode Island has some of the country’s best scenery, featuring beautiful beaches, dramatic cliffs, and dense foliage all within a short distance of each other. For that reason, the area makes for an incredible backdrop when tying the knot.

But, with so many choices available, how do you choose the best place to have your wedding ceremony

The truth is that it all comes down to personal preference, as some people want amenities like hotels and transportation readily available, while others are content with more isolated venues. With that in mind, here are some of the top places to have your wedding in South County, Rhode Island.

The Haversham

In Westerly, you might consider having your wedding at The Haversham, a restored 19th-century tavern that is surrounded by extensive, park-like grounds and features a hilltop gazebo that makes for the perfect spot to say your "I dos" or incorporate into your wedding photos. The tavern is also only a six-minute drive from the beach, should you want to have some pictures taken by the ocean.

The building's interior is Tudor in style, so it's like stepping through a time warp, and it can accommodate up to 170 people. There are some hotels nearby for out of town guests, as well. The Haversham can genuinely host any style of wedding, so check them out if you're thinking of getting married in Westerly.

Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farm

Near the Point Judith Country Club in Narragansett is where you'll come across the Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farm, a grand hall from the early 1900s that is known as a historic landmark in the area. For the ceremony, most couples choose to tie the knot at the arbor, as the field where it sits can accommodate large groups. From there, you can either move inside the hall or stay outdoors for the reception, depending on the season and your particular tastes.

The building's interior features original wood and tons of nostalgic elements, making it an ideal location if you're into a classic-style wedding. It's also only four minutes from Scarborough State Beach and seven minutes from Roger W. Wheeler State Beach, both of which are extraordinary places for wedding photos. There are a couple of small hotels in the area, as well.

The Meadow Brook Inn

Most wedding ceremonies at the Meadow Brook Inn in Charlestown take place in its secret garden, which is an isolated spot bordering a dense forest and lined with the venue's namesake brook. The inn's garden full of annual and perennial flowers will also surround you as you say your vows, making it a relaxing and beautiful place to get hitched.

The Meadow Brook Inn itself was built in the early 1900s, and if you choose to move indoors for your reception, you can expect period decor and a warm atmosphere. There are numerous wedding packages from which to choose, so visit their website to see your options. One thing to keep in mind is that the venue is about 15 minutes from the ocean and there isn't any accommodation nearby due to its secluded location.

Ocean House Resort

So, you're looking to get married on the ocean? Well, Ocean House has you covered, as you can have your entire ceremony overlooking the water or even right on the beach. In fact, the venue's private beach can accommodate up to 400 guests for your ceremony and reception, making it one of the only places on the Atlantic Coast where you can do such a thing. There's also a large ballroom if you want to have your reception inside, along with the Drawing Room, which can accommodate smaller gatherings.

Ocean House is extremely elegant, and it's Watch Hill location means you're always close to amenities, including hotels and other beaches, should you want some variety in your wedding photos. There are 49 guestrooms right at the venue, as well, so your guests won't have to worry about going anywhere after the event.

The Farmer's Daughter

Perhaps the most unusual venue on this list is The Farmer's Daughter in South Kingstown, as it is actually a garden center with an extensive catalog of plants that are raised using sustainable agricultural methods. Starting in 2014, however, the center became one of South County's most sought after wedding venues. It's so popular, in fact, that it gets booked for the entire year months in advance.

Everything at The Farmer's Daughter is outdoors, although you can arrange to have tents installed if you're worried about the weather. The venue is great if you'll have a large group at your wedding because it can accommodate up to 400 people. There are also plenty of scenic spots for pictures, and you're only about 15 minutes from Kelly Beach. You'll find a hotel just down the road, as well.
